Family Forum, Inc. began its development into an organization in the spring of 1980. A sub-committee of the Head Start Policy Council was formed to develop the basis for an organization which could mobilize resources of the community, thereby developing programs to combat poverty in the counties of Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Iron and Price. Furthermore, it wanted an organization which would promote and enrich family life and include family members, especially parents, in the planning and administration of such programs.
The sub-committee recruited a group of community leaders to launch the new organization. Family Forum, Inc. was certified as a non-profit corporation in the state of Wisconsin on May 2, 1980 and was accepted by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax exempt organization (501 C3) on August 12, 1980.
Family Forum, Inc. applied for and received a grant to operate Project Head Start on August 1, 1980. The further development of this agency is reflected in the annual report.
